Overhead Distribution

Overhead distribution systems take power from the bulk system to deliver to individual customers via overhead lines, it is used throughout the world. These lines are so common and ingrained in our landscape that most of us hardly even notice them. But if you were one of the many lineman whose job it is to maintain them, you would not only see them, but you would study them like a book. Power lines require specialized tools and equipment to keep them running. The power lines consist of one or more conductors (commonly multiples of three) suspended by towers or poles. Since most of the insulation is provided by air, overhead power lines are generally the lowest-cost method of power transmission for large quantities of electric energy.
