Staples were used to secure ground wire and ground wire molding to wood poles. There are many different types of staples. Some are stronger so they resist bending better than traditional round wire ones. Barbed shank provides increased retention in wood fibers. Galvanized staples are used to secure coated ground wire to wood poles, while Copper coated staples are used to secure bare ground wire to wood poles. A staple is a type of two-pronged fastener, usually metal, used for joining or binding materials together. Large ones might be used with a hammer or staple gun for masonry, roofing, corrugated boxes and other heavy-duty uses. Smaller ones are used with a stapler to attach pieces of paper together; such are a more permanent and durable fastener for paper documents than the paper clip.
